What are the active ingredients in FAST Shampoo and Conditioner?

FAST contain Cystine, cysteine and methionine which are sulfur containing amino acids. Over 90% of the dry weight of hair comprises proteins called keratins, which have high disulfide content, from the amino acid cysteine. Methionine is able to strengthen the structure of hair and nails.

A published study, resulting from a dermatology congress in Florence in 2006, found that the amount of hair found to be in the Anagen growth phase was significantly higher in a group of people who had taken methionine as part of an amino acid and vitamin B complex combination treatment than a control group which had taken nothing.

Biotin or vitamin B7 is part of the B-complex vitamins. Biotin is also called Vitamin H, “H” coming from the German word “Haar and Haut” meaning hair and skin. Biotin is often recommended for strengthening hair and nails.

Panthenol is the biological active alcohol analog of pantothenic acid or vitamin B5, a member of the B-complex vitamins. Due to its conversion to pantothenic acid in the skin and hair, its commonly used name is Provitamin B5.

The main function of panthenol in hair care is its long lasting moisturizing effects. Panthenol has strong deposition onto the cuticle and deeply penetrates the cortex of a hair. Since panthenol penetrates into hair and improves its ability to regulate its moisture content, it increases its resistance to damage and brittleness.

Inositol is found in many foods, especially in fruits. It plays an important role in the health of cell membranes. For hair, Inositol is said to promote healthy hair and hair growth, according to some reports, Inositol strengthens the cells of the hair helping it to retain moisture.

Tocopheryl Acetate or Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin that is known for its anti-oxidant properties. Tocopheryl acetate does not get oxidized in the skin, where about 5% is converted to free tocopherol and provides beneficial antioxidant effects.

Identifying Alopecia – Stunted Hair Growth

The FAST formula is indeed extremely potent for encouraging healthy hair growth – however this comes on the condition that your hair does not suffer from any tertiary ailments such as alopecia.

Alopecia is a condition that, depending on its severity, can make you lose hair, make your hair grow far slower and in some rarer cases destroy the hair follicle completely. There are two different types of alopecia-

Scarring Alopecia

Otherwise known as cicatricial alopecia, this rarer type of ailment completely destroys the sebaceous (oil) gland within the hair follicle and leaves severe scarring in place.

People can sometimes misinterpret cicatricial alopecia for naturally slow growing hair due to the similar nature of each ailment. However, if you feel any severe itching or burning sensations in addition to progressive hair loss then you may want to check with your local doctor what is causing it.

Non-Scarring Alopecia

There are more common forms of alopecia and affects quite a great number of people – all of which are highly treatable. One common type, Telogen Effluvium, causes slow hair growth and the widespread thinning of hair and is usually caused by hormonal or emotional changes. This can happen during times of great stress or pregnancy.

Another type, androgenetic alopecia, naturally makes the hair grow more slowly. There are a variety of medical treatments for ailments such as this which either supplement or suppress a certain chemical that is being released by the body in an effort to encourage healthy hair growth.

Overall

The FAST formula helps regrow hair up to 99% faster but will not be able to do so if you suffer from ailments that debilitate hair growth such as alopecia. If you suffer from slow growing hair or are beginning to notice hair loss, stay vigilant and perhaps go visit your local GP to ensure that there are no extra complications that may restrict the potency of the FAST formula.

Sebum is a natural skin and hair condition; it does a good job in keeping our skin and hair moisturized. The only problem with sebum is if not washed regularly, this oil can accumulate, making hair greasy and oily. This oiliness can easily attract dust and dirt and could sometimes cause fungal or bacterial infections to the scalp.

Do Not Use Heat

The Effects of Dandruff on Hair Growth?

maxresdefaultDandruff is a common scalp disorder characterized by itching and flaking of the skin in the scalp. Dandruff affects almost half of the population at the post pubertal age regardless of sex and ethnicity. This condition is not contagious and is rarely serous but it can be embarrassing.

One common cause of dandruff when the oil known as ‘sebum’ is produced too much. Our hair follicles naturally produce this oil to keep our hair clean. Quite commonly, many people will over produce this oil as a result of the environment they live in. For example, in cold areas, your hair follicles are forced into producing more of this oil, yet when you return to a warmer place, this chemical is continually produced in greater than necessary quantities.

Although sebum is indeed a useful oil, too much of it is counter-productive. Too much sebum  on the scalp creates a blanket of oil preventing dead skin cells from shedding, this causes greasy lumps of dandruff on the scalp.  If not treated, this will cause severe itching and constantly scratching the scalp can pull out hairs from the roots, it can also damage the hair follicles.

The best way to control dandruff is to keep the scalp clean and this is easily done by washing your hair daily. In addition to keeping your hair moisturised, it will also wash off all dead skin cells. It is advisable to use a deep cleansing shampoo and conditioner like FAST. Through adding other essential oils and vitamins while simultaneously cleansing the scalp of any impurities, the FAST formula can help to regulate sebum levels and reduce dandruff.
