4 Styling Techniques That Can Damage Your Hair

hairStyling your hair is one way of expressing yourself. Fixing up your hair neatly and beautifully can boost your confidence, that’s why you will often wake up early in the morning just to style your hair.

Unfortunately some styling techniques can harm your hair especially when done frequently. Problems like dull and dry hair, making hair prone to breakage, affecting hair growth. In worst cases, hair loss can also occur. Below are some of the techniques that can damage your hair.

  1. Minimize the use of heat. Heat based products like: hair curlers, hair driers and especially hair straighteners can reach temperatures so high, they can literally vaporize the little moisture the hair holds.  This can make hair dull and very dry, making hair brittle.  Though the use of heat is the easiest way to style hair, constant use can damage hair, so it is advisable to use heat styling on specially occasions.
  2. Gentle grooming. Sometimes we find ourselves forcefully pulling our brush or comb thru our hair. This can put a lot of strain to the hair and can break the strands. In some cases, hair can be pulled out from the scalp which can cause patches of bald spots on the scalp. The best solution for this is use wide tooth combs or better: use special brush or combs that help reduce tangles.
  3. Do not brush or comb hair while it’s wet. Some of us commonly do this; again this can pull hair from the roots and can cause hair breakage. It is best to wrap hair and towel dry, then air dry before grooming.
  4. Some hair styles like braids, cornrows, and ponytails can put a lot of strain to hair especially when these hair styles are worn tightly. Again hair is prone to breakage and being pulled from roots. If possible try not to style hair in this fashion, or you can style hair loosely to prevent strain to hair.

Tips for Beautiful Hair Growth

beautiful hairEveryone wants to have lavishly beautiful hair. Some have it naturally, while others struggle to have beautiful hair. Maybe, people who have naturally beautiful hair don’t actually have naturally beautiful hair. Without knowing it, they are probably doing what’s good for hair.

Here are a few hair care tips that you should know:

  1. Washing hair every day is important because having a clean scalp and hair provides the best conditions for hair growth. Everyday oil producing glands called sebaceous glands produce sebum, a natural skin and hair conditioner. But too much of this oil can cause all sorts of problems like clogged pores, oily hair and scalp and dandruff. Washing everyday can help control this.
  2. Do you comb or brush your hair when it’s wet? Never brush or comb hair while it’s wet, this can lead to hair breakage or worse, hair can be directly pulled off from the roots. If your hair is tangled while in the shower, use your hands or a wide tooth comb and gently untangle your hair. Never use force to untangle your hair.
  3. Use a good conditioner. A conditioner is one of the easiest ways to moisturize hair, so don’t skip it. Try to get the best ones you can afford and don’t go for the all-in-one shampoos. It is also great to deep condition your hair once a week or as needed.
  4. After a shower, do not rub or scrub your hair to dry, we commonly do this but it is good for hair. Rubbing causes friction and the heat can make your hair frizzy. Instead try squeezing your hair dry with a cotton towel or cloth. This may take more time to dry hair but it’s worth it.
  5. Scalp care is also important. A healthy scalp promotes healthy hair growth. Keeping the scalp clean and massaging it from time to time is recommended.
  6. Limit use of heating tools. Frequent hair drying, flat ironing or curl ironing can damage hair. Reserve these for special occasions.

That’s it, follow the above tips will help you grow beautiful hair. The good thing about this is you don’t have to spend a lot of money to attain healthy beautiful hair.
