Hair Growth Tips For Healthy and Beautiful Hair

Hair-Growth-FoodsDo you feel like your hair isn’t growing? Has it even grown an inch over the past year? Slow hair growth can really be a problem, especially for those who want to grow their hair longer. But the fact is, slow hair growth shouldn’t be a problem as long as you eat nutritious foods. Eating healthy foods like: fruits and green leafy vegetables, fish, low-fat dairy products, eggs, and nuts will not only promote healthy hair growth, it will also give you noticeably glowing skin and nails too.

Yet there are other things that you can do to encourage healthy hair growth:

Quit Smoking

Smoking is said to have adverse reaction to hair growth because it causes vasoconstriction or constriction of the arteries and veins. Narrow blood vessels means not much nutrients and oxygen can freely circulate in the body, which can affect normal bodily functions and cellular processes.

Drink Moderately

Alcohol is also have a negative effect on hair growth. It is found that alcohol can lower zinc levels in the body. Zinc is a mineral with antioxidant properties and help boost the immune system. Decreased levels of zinc can weaken the immune system and could lead to poor hair health and could even cause hair loss. Though it is said that moderate drinking  can be healthy, too much alcohol on the other hand can lower the levels of zinc, which affects hair growth.

Regular Exercise

Regular exercise increases the blood flow to the body as well as the scalp. This in turn will translate to having a healthier head of hair. Gentle scalp massage will also do wonders to make faster hair growth.   A five-minute gentle massage is enough to stimulate your scalp’s blood supply thus bringing nutrients to the hair follicles for optimum hair growth.

Hygiene

Washing your hair and scalp daily will remove all dirt and oils that have accumulated during the day. Having a clean scalp is equal to having healthier growth of hair as this prevents the follicles from getting clogged up and being stripped of nutrients. The key to safe daily shampooing is by using products that have natural ingredients. imagesHair loss and hair thinning has always been a major problem for men. Today, it is estimated that 20 percent of men start to experience increased hair loss by the age of 20. What’s worrying is that some women are experiencing thinning hair as well. There are a lot of reasons why you could experience increased hair loss like: stress, certain diets or over dieting and of course genetic factors.

Fortunately, there are a lot of things you can do to get your hair back. Now, we are not talking about anything instant that comes from a box, we’re talking of something more permanent, something that will stop further hair fall and encourage hair growth. Healthy and nutritious food can encourage your follicles to produce hair. Yes, nutritious healthy foods are the key to healthy hair growth. Below are some excellent foods for your locks:

Lean Meat

Meat from pork, beef and chicken are very important for hair growth since they are packed with proteins. Why is protein so important for hair? Because this is what hair is mostly made of, our hair is actually a strand of protein called keratin, the same type of protein found in our skin and nails. So if you want to have healthy skin, nails and hair, don’t forget your daily protein requirement.

Also, lean meat is a good source of iron. Iron helps the red blood cells carry oxygen all over the body and this includes our scalp. More oxygen and nutrients means more hair.

Fish

Salmon, tuna and mackerel are also good sources of protein and excellent sources of omega 3 fatty acids. Compared to animal oil, fish oils are healthy oils and consuming more is actually good for you. Oils are needed by the sebaceous glands, these glands are found underneath our skin and they are responsible for producing a special oil called sebum. Sebum acts as a natural skin and hair conditioner.

Soya Beans

Soya beans is also an excellent source of vegetable protein. Also, soya beans contain vitamins like Niacine, riboflavin, thiamine, vitamin b6, vitamin A and E.

So there you have it, excellent food sources of protein, healthy oils and vitamins for healthy hair growth.

Managing Hair Loss Due to Telogen Effluvium

hair_lossTelogen effluvium is a condition where a patient experience excessive hair shedding and hair loss. Typically, we shed about 80 to 100 hair strands a day, this is considered normal. But more than 100 strands means increased hair shedding or is considered hair loss.

The term telogen is actually a part of the hair growth cycle, this is also called the resting phase. In any given moment, about 10 to 15% of our hair is in this stage and could last for around 100 days. During telogen phase the hair follicle separates from the dermal papilla, a structure found at the base of the hair follicle responsible for hair growth. Then a the hair follicle will for a bulb or commonly known as a “club hair”. During this time hair is either pushed out by new hair growth or pulled out by external forces like combing or rubbing hair against a pillow.

In Latin, effluvium means “a flow out”, in medical terminology it means “a shedding.

What is the cause of teleogen effluvium?

The cause of telogen effluvium varies and differs from person to person. Extreme stress is a common cause of telogen effluvium, usually stress from child birth (post partum hair loss), hormonal changes, major operation, certain illnesses, some medication and over dieting. Of course stressors differ for every person; one event can be very stressful for one individual, while others may or may not find it stressful at all.

Is there a cure for telogen effluvium?

There is no cure for telogen effluvium; fortunately, this condition is self limiting. Once an individual recovers from any stressful event, hair will eventually grow back again. Sadly, it will take a few months for hair to grow back its original thickness; this is where hair growth stimulants can help hasten the hair growth process. Products like FAST shampoo and conditioner are specifically made to encourage faster hair growth.

Hair Growth And Prenatal Vitamins

hair growthThere is a lot of information that can be found on the internet that states that taking prenatal vitamins will promote hair growth. This information has led non-pregnant women and even men to take this type of vitamin in hoping to get fast and healthier hair growth. But the truth is, there have been no studies to prove that prenatal vitamins does or can promote hair growth.

The reason behind the belief that prenatal vitamins promote hair growth is because pregnant women have really thick and beautiful hair. Mothers will swear that the condition of their hair is at its best when they were pregnant. But the real reason why they have great looking hair is due to their hormones. Hormones like estrogen are at its peak during pregnancy. Estrogen is responsible for delaying or stopping the telogen phase of the hair growth cycle, which is the stage of active hair fall. In addition, estrogen prolongs the anagen phase, which is the stage of active hair growth. This is also the reason why some women experience excessive body hair or hirsutism during pregnancy.

Prenatal vitamins are not made to replace your regular multivitamins. Although, prenatal vitamins are readily available and can easily bought over the counter, some of the dosage of some vitamins are higher to suit the needs of a child bearing mother. Folic acid dosage is increased because this B vitamin help it prevent congenital malformations, brain and spinal cord defects in the child. Also, folic acid aids the body to produce new cells. Iron is also increased as it is needed by the expectant mother in preparation for blood loss in childbirth. Too much iron can cause stomach upset, irritation to the bowel and worst, can cause ulcerations to the lining of the stomach.

Prenatal vitamins are not recommended for hair growth, in fact, they are dangerous if taken like your regular multivitamins. If you want your hair to grow fast, better stick with a natural hair growth stimulants like FAST shampoo and conditioner.

The nuts are collected and crushed, then pressed, just like they way olive oil is made. This fresh oil is great for conditioning the hair and only a tiny drop is needed to do the job.

Eat Healthy

Consuming nutrition food is the key to healthy hair growth. No matter how much you care of your hair, if you do not eat the right foods, your hair won’t grow as healthy. A well balanced diet is excellent in providing our hair with the nutrients, vitamins and minerals. But what hair need the most is protein, because this is what hair is made of, so make sure that you get your daily requirement of protein.

Hygiene

Washing your hair and scalp on a regular basis is good for hair growth and over all health of hair. Our skin has a special gland that produces an oil called sebum, which act as a natural skin and hair conditioner. If sebum is not washed regularly, this oil can accumulate on the scalp and hair, making your locks look really greasy. Also, greasy hair easily attracts dust and dirt in the air, which can gather on the scalp causing fungal or bacterial infection. So keep your hair and scalp clean.

Avoid Too Much Styling

It is best to keep the classic straight hair look, because this style is less damaging to hair. Pony tails, cornrows, dreadlocks and the like, can put a lot of stress to the hair due to the constant pulling or tension, which causes hair to break  and in worse, could even cause patch hair loss.
